The Juvéderm® Family of Products
Fillers are used to restore lost volume, fill in wrinkles or scars and plump up the lips. Each product in the Juvéderm® Collection has its own unique formula designed for a specific purpose. The Juvéderm® Collection of fillers differ in density and cross linking of the hyaluronic particles. These properties help determine the optimal site for injection. Juvéderm® products contain a local anesthetic, Lidocaine, to diminish the injection discomfort. See the guide below to see which one might be right for you.
Juvéderm® Volbella XC
The 2017 Allure® Best of Beauty Breakthrough Award Recipient. Volbella® XC is the thinnest, most spreadable of the Juvéderm® Collection of fillers. It is designed to increase lip fullness and soften the appearance of vertical lip lines. It is a great choice for “newbies” and commonly used to add volume to lips. After a treatment, your lips will be fuller and smoother in a subtle way, leaving you with a beautiful “kissable lips” appearance.
Lip fullness varies from person to person. Some people are born with thin lips, while others notice their lips become thinner with aging. Volbella® XC provides subtle amounts of volume and is especially useful to outline the lips. In addition, it is also an ideal treatment for reducing the appearance of lines around eyes. Volbella® used “off label,” can smooth the delicate area under the eyes and diminish the appearance of acne scars. Depending on the amount you receive, and other factors your results will typically last 6-12 months.

Juvéderm® XC
Juvéderm® XC is a hyaluronic gel formulated to treat deeper or more severe wrinkles. This filler contains lidocaine to reduce injection discomfort. Juvéderm® XC is used to correct facial creases, such as the nasolabial folds (nose to mouth creases) and marionette lines (mouth to chin creases), as well as for lip augmentation.
Juvéderm® Ultra XC
Juvéderm® Ultra XC hyaluronic gel has a larger particle size that makes it last longer than Juvéderm® XC. This product is a great way to give the lips a noticeably fuller appearance. If you’re tired of thin lips and want plumper ones, Juvéderm® Ultra is right for you. It’s also a way to address the nasolabial folds, which stretch from the corners of the mouth to the corners of the nose.
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC
Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC filler is a step above Juvéderm® Ultra XC. It is thicker and best used to treat more moderate to severe facial lines and folds. Parenthesis and marionette lines can be improved with Juvéderm® Ultra XC.
Juvéderm® Vollure XC
Juvéderm® Vollure XC is hyaluronic gel formulated with a newer methodology of cross-linking hyaluronic particles. This filler is used to treat lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose. Vollure XC provides excellent durability and dispersion to treat nasolabial folds and marionette lines while allowing for natural facial expressions and movements
Juvéderm® Voluma XC
Juvéderm® Voluma XC is the thickest, strongest hyaluronic gel formulated with a newer methodology of cross-linking hyaluronic particles. It is designed to provide a lift and volume boost to the cheek area or other areas that have lost volume. Over time, cheeks flatten, and the skin may begin to sag. This is caused by a natural loss of volume in the cheek area. In addition, Voluma XC can support the entire eye area leading to a reduction of fine lines around the eye. Juvéderm Voluma XC is designed to add volume deep beneath the skin’s surface to build back the lost volume.
As you can see the Juvéderm® family of products is formulated with its own unique variations and indications. Consider Juvéderm® if you would like to:
- Enhance your lips
- Soften your nasolabial (“laugh lines”) and marionette folds
- Reduce vertical lip lines, commonly referred to as “smoker’s lines” around the lips
- Create more mid-face and cheek definition for a more lifted appearance
With Juvéderm® everyone will notice, but no one will know your secret!

Before & After

Making You Look Younger
The goal for any injectable filler procedure is to replace the volume that has been lost, restoring your own natural, youthful look. Fillers have become popular because of the ease of placement, reasonable cost, minimal downtime, acceptable side-effect profile and lasting results. In addition, this procedure will not change the way your face moves, expresses or feels. We want you to look like You – just a little younger and more refreshed!
More About Gel Fillers
Gel fillers are comprised of hyaluronic acid compounds that resemble naturally occurring molecules found in the body. Within the human body, large amounts of hyaluronic acid are found between the cells, where it provides the skin with its youthful suppleness and moisture. As we age our natural levels of hyaluronic acid decrease resulting in a decline in collagen and elastin support. This leads to wrinkles and folds. We can replace this lost support with hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as those in the Juvéderm® collection. As a result, injectable fillers have become one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic enhancements, often referred to as a “non-surgical facelift.” In addition, treatment with gel fillers can be reversed. So, while hearing the word “acid” may sound scary, hyaluronic acid isn’t harsh or damaging at all, in fact, it’s the opposite.
The Juvéderm® collection of products can help you lift, smooth or plump your way to natural-looking results.

Pre Filler Treatment Concerns
Avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen), St John’s Wort, high doses of vitamin E or fish oil supplements. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Products should not be used during pregnancy, when breastfeeding, or in patients under 18 years for nasolabial folds. Products with hyaluronic acid should NOT be used by people with history of allergies to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria treatment. Please inform the office if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores. We will often prescribe a medication to minimize recurrence.
Injection Procedure
All injections involve some degree of discomfort but Dr. Hernberg uses a local anesthetic in all of the products to reduce the discomfort. Other measures, including nerve blocks and topical numbing cream can be used to minimize the discomfort associated with the injections.
A topical numbing cream can be applied to the areas to be treated beforehand for approximately 60 minutes to achieve maximum comfort. Once the numbing cream is removed, the area(s) are thoroughly cleaned, sterilized and then injected. Each syringe of filler is sterilely packaged for single patient use with a very thin, small injection needle. The injection process typically takes anywhere from 15-45 minutes depending on the areas to be injected and the number of syringes utilized.
All of Juvéderm® products used at TWC contain a numbing agent, Lidocaine, within the product itself, which in addition to the topical numbing cream reduce the discomfort related to the procedure. Juvéderm® products are made and manufactured in the USA, adhering to strict FDA guidelines regarding safety and efficacy.
DermaSculpt Blunt Tip Micro Cannula
Depending on the treatment site, Dr. Hernberg may use a cannula technique to place the filler. At TWC, we use the world’s leading blunt tip micro cannula system, Derma Sculpt, to improve comfort, reduce the risks of complications, reduce bruising, and stimulate collagen production.
After Filler Treatment
You may have some swelling, redness, pain, bruising, and tenderness following treatment. This may last up to 7 days. Generally, less bruising occurs with the thinner HA products and the micro cannula technique. Contact Dr. Hernberg if you experience side effects beyond 3 days, or if you have any concerns or questions. Follow-up appointments are recommended 10-14 days after treatment. Immediately after treatment apply cold compresses to reduce swelling. Avoid touching the treated area for the first six hours following treatment. After six hours, the area can be gently washed with soap and water. Avoid exposure to intense heat (sun lamp or sun bathing). Avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St John’s Wort, or high doses of vitamin E supplements for one week after treatment. These agents may increase bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
